TAMPA, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold was arrested in Tampa on Wednesday night in connection with a February kidnapping and armed robbery investigation, police said.<\/p>\n

Arnold, 23, turned himself in and was booked into the Orient Road Jail in Hillsborough County, according to the Tampa Police Department<\/a>. He faces four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery, police said.<\/p>\n

Investigators described Arnold as the \u201cprimary conspirator\u201d in what they said was a targeted attack tied to the theft of more than $250,000 worth of personal property from an Airbnb <\/a>rental in Largo.<\/p>\n

Police said Arnold had been staying periodically at the Largo rental with several co-defendants and other friends. On Feb. 1, multiple items belonging to Arnold and others were stolen from the Airbnb. Two days later, Arnold and others reported the loss to Largo police, according to Tampa investigators.<\/p>\n

Authorities said Arnold believed two of the three victims were responsible for the theft, but Tampa police later determined the victims were not involved.<\/p>\n

The alleged attack happened around midnight on Feb. 4 at an apartment in the 14000 block of North 46th Street in Tampa. Police said three men in their late teens were lured to the apartment, held at gunpoint, battered, pistol-whipped and robbed before being ordered to leave.<\/p>\n

According to investigators, co-defendants streamed the incident to Arnold and others as they traveled to the apartment. Police said a group chat was also created in which Arnold and another defendant allegedly gave directions during the assault.<\/p>\n

About an hour later, Arnold and others arrived at the apartment, police said. Investigators allege Arnold directed others to go inside while the assault was still taking place. Police said the victims were later escorted out by armed suspects, forced into their vehicle and left the scene.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo one has the right to take the law into their own hands. A dispute over missing property does not justify kidnapping, violence or retaliation,\u201d State Attorney Suzy Lopez said, according to The Associated Press.<\/p>\n

‘Fame doesn’t get you out’ of charges<\/p>\n

Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said the arrest shows that public status does not shield someone from criminal prosecution.<\/p>\n

\u201cFame doesn\u2019t get you out of criminal charges or our pursuit of justice and holding criminals accountable,\u201d Bercaw said, according to AP.<\/p>\n

Six other people were previously arrested in the case between Feb. 4 and March 21, Tampa police said. They include Arianna Del Valle, Jasmine Randazzo, Lyndell Hudson II, Christion Williams, Boakai Hilton Jr. and Freddie Hughes. Police said the defendants face various counts of armed robbery, kidnapping, armed kidnapping and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.<\/p>\n

At least seven people have been charged in the case, according to AP. Two defendants pleaded guilty Wednesday and are cooperating with prosecutors. One was sentenced to four years in prison on kidnapping, conspiracy and robbery with a gun charges, AP reported.<\/p>\n

Arnold has denied involvement through Denise White, CEO of EAG Sports Management, the agency that represents him.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no credible evidence linking Mr. Arnold to these allegations,\u201d White said in a statement to AP. White said prosecutors appear to be relying on testimony from convicted felons who admitted their own involvement and may have incentive to shift blame.<\/p>\n

Arnold was scheduled to appear in Hillsborough County court Thursday afternoon. The state attorney\u2019s office has up to 21 days to file formal charges, AP reported.<\/p>\n

Arnold was selected by the Detroit Lions in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft after playing at the University of Alabama. He recorded 31 tackles and one interception last season. The Lions told AP they were aware of Arnold\u2019s arrest but declined to comment.<\/p>\n
