Shevrin Jones continues to build support in the northern portion of Florida\u2019s 24th Congressional District, with top officials from three Broward municipalities backing his bid.<\/p>\n
Mayors Felicia Brunson of West Park, Angelo Castillo of Pembroke Pines and Josh Levy of Hollywood have all thrown endorsements Jones\u2019 way, joining several others who hope to see him succeed retiring U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson, a fellow Democrat.<\/p>\n
Brunson praised Jones\u2019 track record in her city.<\/p>\n
\u201cShevrin Jones has always shown up for West Park and Broward County. He doesn\u2019t just talk \u2014 he gets things done,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cCongress needs more people like him who understand what families here are actually going through and have the vision to follow through.\u201d<\/p>\n
Castillo pitched Jones as an alternative to entrenched Washington politics.<\/p>\n
\u201cShevrin is the only candidate with deep Broward roots AND a real plan to help working families and small businesses thrive,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow more than ever, we need new ideas and fresh perspectives in Washington \u2014 not self-serving politicians only looking out for themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n
Levy said that after watching Jones rise from the Florida House to the Florida Senate, he is proud to back him for the next step.<\/p>\n

Jones said the \u201coutpouring of support\u201d his campaign has received from Broward has been \u201chumbling and extraordinary \u2014 not from special interests, but from everyday people who are ready for change.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cBroward County is in my bones. We launched this campaign here because this community, these streets, these families is where my story begins and where my purpose is rooted,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s what I\u2019ve done in Tallahassee, and that\u2019s exactly what I\u2019ll do in Congress.\u201d<\/p>\n
The mayoral endorsements follow nods<\/a> from former Miami-Dade Commissioners Betty Ferguson and Barbara Jordan, who backed Jones over rival Oliver Gilbert, who serves in the District 1 seat on the Miami-Dade Commission they previously held.<\/p>\n Jones also carries an endorsement<\/a> from U.S. Rep. Ritchie Torres of New York.<\/p>\n Gilbert, meanwhile, netted Wilson\u2019s endorsement<\/a> this week.<\/p>\n Jones launched his campaign<\/a> to succeed Wilson earlier this month at his family\u2019s church<\/a> in Pembroke Park, calling for a \u201cnew generation of leadership\u201d to take on \u201cout-of-touch politicians in Washington (who) put themselves and their wealthy donors first.\u201d<\/p>\n CD 24 covers Miami Gardens in Miami-Dade and Hollywood, Miramar and Pembroke Park in Broward County. More than 68.7% of voters there backed former Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024, making the Democratic Primary the race that will effectively determine who succeeds Wilson.<\/p>\n Six other Democrats have qualified<\/a> for the contest: Gilbert, cultural leader Marshall Davis, physician and veteran Rudy Moise, former Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jean Monestime, civil rights lawyer Roderick Vereen, and lawyer Kendrick Meeks, the son and grandson of two former members of Congress.<\/p>\n On the Republican side, there\u2019s Te Mayonna Brown \u2014 a self-described real estate developer and \u201cpro-MAGA, pro-Constitution conservative\u201d whose campaign website<\/a> says she lives in Tampa.
