TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A former Leon County Sheriff\u2019s Office detention deputy has filed a lawsuit against the sheriff\u2019s office, claiming discrimination. <\/p>\n
According to the lawsuit, filed Thursday, Chauncy Riggsby is suing the Leon County Sheriff\u2019s office for damages, alleging he was discriminated against based on his race and gender. <\/p>\n
Riggsby was arrested in 2025 <\/a>and accused of bringing contraband into the jail. According to previous reporting, LCSO said Riggsby was found with \u201cunauthorized tobacco products.\u201d <\/p>\n Riggsby claims the tobacco product was for his personal use and he \u201csimply forgot to leave it in his vehicle before reporting to work.\u201d<\/p>\n The criminal charges were dropped <\/a>and he was reinstated, but placed on six months\u2019 probation and docked 80 hours of time, according to the lawsuit. <\/p>\n Riggbsy alleges he was the victim of racial discrimination, citing two \u201cfemale, African American co-workers\u201d were also found to be \u201cintroducing contraband\u201d into the jail on the same day as Riggbsy.<\/p>\n According to the lawsuit, neither of these employees were disciplined for their actions. <\/p>\n \u201c[Riggsby] has been the victim of discrimination on the basis of his race in that he was treated differently than similarly situated black employees of [LCSO] and has been subject to differential treatment on the basis, at least in part, of his race,\u201d the lawsuit reads. <\/p>\n He claims LCSO condoned the treatment and said the actions were \u201coffensive, severe and pervasive.\u201d <\/p>\n Riggbsy also alleges gender discrimination, saying LCSO took action and \u201callowed action to be taken against [him] because he is male.\u201d<\/p>\n The lawsuit claims LCSO knew or should have known about the discrimination and that he \u201csuffered adverse employment actions including, but not limited to, his employment termination.\u201d <\/p>\n The lawsuit comes after Riggsby filed a charge of discrimination with the Florida Commission on Human Relations and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, according to the lawsuit.<\/p>\n To keep up with the latest news as it develops, follow WCTV on Facebook<\/a>, Instagram<\/a>, YouTube<\/a>, Nextdoor<\/a> <\/a>and X<\/a> (Twitter<\/a>).<\/p>\n Have a news tip or see an error?
