Edison Food + Drink Lab <\/a>is closing for the summer, the restaurant announced this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter 14 years of creating, serving and welcoming you, we are taking a summer break to refresh and dream up something extraordinary,\u201d the Monday post reads<\/a>. \u201cThank you for every adventurous bite, every craft cocktail, every moment you trusted us to surprise your palates. Stay tuned for the next chapter.\u201d<\/p>\n

Owner and chef Jeannie Pierola<\/a>\u2014a five-time James Beard Award semifinalist\u2014told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay that the break will allow for deep cleaning during slower summer months.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd Edison\u2019s looking for a brand refresh, \u201d Pierola said. \u201cCurrently, we\u2019re not at any stage to release information for a reopening date, but reopening isn\u2019t too far out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pierola is also the owner and head chef of Counter Culture on 2909 W Bay to Bay Blvd., which is three miles from Edison on 912 W Kennedy Blvd. That restaurant remains fully operational.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The team at Edison is praised for its rotating menu, which \u201cexperiments with everyday food<\/a>.\u201d Past hits include crispy pork belly with burnt leek black garlic, passionfruit gastrique and baby sorrel, and cracker-fried red snapper with smoked cheddar grits.<\/p>\n

Pierola spent 10 years as the executive chef of Bern\u2019s Steakhouse and Haven (formerly SideBern\u2019s). She left the iconic Tampa restaurant brand in 2007 before opening Edison Food + Drink Lab in 2012 and Counter Culture in 2019.<\/p>\n
