(WITN) &#8211; The Jacksonville Police Department\u2019s newly appointed interim chief officially stepped into her role today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Ashley Weaver was sworn in as the interim police chief this morning during a ceremony at Jacksonville City Hall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">City manager Joshua Ray appointed Weaver to the role after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.witn.com\/2026\/06\/08\/jacksonville-police-chief-heading-florida-new-job\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.witn.com\/2026\/06\/08\/jacksonville-police-chief-heading-florida-new-job\/\">Chief Jarad Phelps <\/a>submitted his resignation earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Phelps accepted an offer to become the chief in Boca Raton, Florida. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Weaver started with the Jacksonville Police Department in 1998 and has held many titles before becoming deputy police chief in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 WITN.
