Photo by Florida DOT<\/p>\nThe Florida Department of Transportation recently hosted the Federal Highway Administration and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration at a groundbreaking ceremony for five new truck parking expansion projects along I-4.<\/p>\n

Construction will begin this summer on the first three sites along I-4 in Seminole and Volusia counties, which are expected to be completed in mid-2027. Construction on two additional sites along I-4, in Osceola and Orange counties, will begin in 2027.<\/p>\n

Funding for this project comes in part from a $180 million Infrastructure for Rebuilding America or INFRA grant<\/a> issued to Florida DOT by the U.S. Department of Transportation in January 2024 to add 917 new truck parking spaces along the I-4 corridor, which carries 95 percent of the state\u2019s consumer goods.<\/p>\n \u201cOur truckers deserve a safe place to rest,\u201d said Sean McMaster, FHWA\u2019s administrator, in a statement<\/a>. \u201c[This project] will expand and deliver dedicated parking spaces right where they are needed most \u2013 along the I-4 corridor, which has the highest unmet demand in the state.\u201d<\/p>\n [Editor\u2019s note: Florida DOT\u2019s I-4 truck parking project mirrors\u00a0similar investments<\/a>\u00a0being made by other state departments of transportation in different parts of the country.
