{"id":32093,"date":"2025-11-04T00:40:14","date_gmt":"2025-11-04T00:40:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/32093\/"},"modified":"2025-11-04T00:40:14","modified_gmt":"2025-11-04T00:40:14","slug":"leon-county-commissioner-david-okeefe-files-for-re-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/32093\/","title":{"rendered":"Leon County Commissioner David O&#8217;Keefe files for re-election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Leon County Commissioner David O\u2019Keefe, a progressive leaning CPA who formerly served as CFO of WFSU Public Media, filed for re-election on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI am proud of the hard fought progress we\u2019ve made, and I am ready to continue pushing for a better future for everyone in our community.\u201d said O\u2019Keefe, who is currently in his first term on the Commission.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">David Hawkins, an employee of the Florida Department of Revenue who in 2024 ran unsuccessfully against current County Commissioner Carolyn Cummings, is challenging O\u2019Keefe for the County Commission seat. Hawkins also ran for Commission seats in 2016, 2020, and 2022.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">O\u2019Keefe highlighted the policies he\u2019s pushed for the community since elected to the District 5 seat in 2022.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWhen I asked the residents of District 5 to let me represent them on the County Commission I committed to transparency, accountability, new affordable rental housing, protecting our neighborhoods, and putting people first in every decision,\u201d said O\u2019Keefe.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/states.aarp.org\/florida\/caregiver-resources\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-758233 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/2224700-Care-FL-Caregiver-Digital-Banner-Ads728x90.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">O\u2019Keefe has publicly and politically aligned himself with other rising stars of the local progressive wing of the Democratic Party, including Tallahassee City Commissioners Jack Porter and Jeremy Matlow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">O\u2019Keefe is also a gun control advocate, and secured a majority vote to add the issue to the board\u2019s slate of policy priorities in the upcoming 2026 Legislative Session.
