JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 A man accused of shooting and killing a 2-year-old boy<\/a> in March pleaded guilty to the charges he\u2019s facing, State Attorney Melissa Nelson announced Thursday.<\/p>\n

Steven Dodson pleaded guilty to the following charges in A\u2019mahri Robinson\u2019s death:<\/p>\n

First-degree murderAttempted first-degree murderPossession of a firearm by a convicted felonAggravated child abuse<\/p>\n

After the plea, Judge Jonathan Sacks sentenced Dodson to life in Florida State Prison without the possibility of parole.<\/p>\n

In April, Dodson pleaded not guilty<\/a> in A\u2019mahri\u2019s killing.<\/p>\n

The shooting happened on March 22 at the Valencia Way apartments. Police said there was a domestic dispute in the home and during that dispute a gun was fired, striking the child while he was in his mother\u2019s arms.<\/p>\n

A Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office arrest report identified Dodson as A\u2019mahri\u2019s stepfather.<\/p>\n

\u201cDodson had shot toward her while she held the child in her arms,\u201d a news release from Nelson\u2019s office said. \u201cVideo surveillance from the complex showed Dodson run from the apartment and throw a gun into a dumpster before running away.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dodson was taken into custody<\/a> the next day by U.S. Marshals and the JSO SWAT team.<\/p>\n
