ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. \u2013 This month, Orange County Public Schools launched its first-ever \u201cSummer Production Series,\u201d with a performance set for this weekend.<\/p>\n

In a release, school officials said that the inaugural performance is \u201cIn the Heights,\u201d thanks to a grant received from The Phoenix Foundation of Central Florida through the Foundation for OCPS.<\/p>\n

“In the Heights” runs from June 26 – 28 at Edgewater High School. (Orange County Public Schools)<\/p>\n

\u201cMore than 90 OCPS high school students from across the district are contributing to the cast, crew, and orchestra,\u201d the release reads. \u201cThe production\u2019s artistic team is led by multiple award-winning OCPS theatre educators, a distinction that reflects the district\u2019s recognition last year as a Premiere Community for Theatre Education by the Educational Theatre Association.\u201d<\/p>\n

The musical itself was written by famed songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda, and it tells the story of a vibrant community in New York\u2019s Washington Heights neighborhood. Back in 2008, the show won the 2008 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Orchestrations.<\/p>\n
