According to the Florida Highway Patrol incident database, its personnel responded at 10:47 a.m. to a fatality on the 100 block of Southeast El Sito Court in Port St. Lucie.A spokesperson for the Florida Highway Patrol said a 2016 Lincoln MKX sports utility vehicle was parked in a residential driveway.Your neighborhood: Local coverage from WPBF 25 NewsAn initial investigation revealed that a 78-year-old woman from Port St. Lucie was standing outside the SUV between the open driver\u2019s door and the left side of the vehicle.Her 59-year-old son from Port St. Lucie was seated in the right front seat.According to FHP, the son started the engine of the SUV by reaching over the center console with his left hand to depress the brake pedal and used his right hand to push the start button.For an unknown reason that is being investigated, the vehicle began to roll backwards in the driveway.The open driver\u2019s door knocked the woman to the ground.
