Officials say woman was swimming in Econlockhatchee River<\/p>\n

GENEVA, Fla. \u2013 A woman is dead after being bitten by an alligator on the Econlockhatchee River, according to the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission.<\/p>\n

Officials say it happened near the Barr Street Trailhead in the Little Big Econ State Forest in Seminole County around 1:30 p.m. Sunday.<\/p>\n

FWC says the woman was sent to the hospital with serious injuries. <\/p>\n

She later died.<\/p>\n

Multiple agencies including the Seminole County Fire Department and Sheriff\u2019s Office are on scene, along with FWC.<\/p>\n

Officials say a nuisance alligator trapper was called to the scene as well.<\/p>\n

FWC says this is an active and on-going investigation.<\/p>\n

Officials want to remind the public that while serious alligator injuries are rare, FWC\u2019s Statewide Nuisance Alligator Program removes alligators that pose a danger to people, pets or property.<\/p>\n

FWC\u2019s toll-free nuisance alligator hotline is 866-FWC-GATOR (866-392-4286).<\/p>\n
