In case you have not noticed, graduations and end of year parties are over. Traffic has improved dramatically and many are taking vacations.<\/p>\n

For those staying here, South Florida still offers lots to do. Coral Gables Chamber always is busy as it continues to offer members great networking events. The chamber\u2019s monthly Women Business Network Luncheon on June 16 at the Thesis Hotel featured a panel of women in the construction industry. The program included moderator Kara Olesky with panelists Karen Campbell, Ligis Labrada and Monique Selman, who always stands out with her pink construction helmet. That luncheon was followed on June 18 with the chamber\u2019s monthly breakfast meeting at The Biltmore Hotel.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s always much to do at Books & Books in Coral Gables, a place that provides wonderful introductions to writers with book signings and readings. One such event took place June 26 when Jeneissy Azcuy read a new novel, Culebra, that she authored with Armando H. Diaz. The novel is a must-read fast-paced political thriller inspired by Operation Pedro Pan, a program that rescued more than 14,000 Cuban children from communism between 1960 and 1962.<\/p>\n

Service organizations are busy as well.<\/p>\n

Coral Gables Rotarians are planning their annual July 4 celebration, coordinated by past president Sally Baumgarnter. Sally is turning over the gavel to Felix Pardo, who steps up once again as club president. At the club\u2019s recent meeting, the guest speaker did not show but past president Frank Sexton saved the day recounting some funny stories.<\/p>\n

In other club news. the General Federation of Woman\u2019s Club had its Spring Workshop on June 20 at the Miami Woman\u2019s Club where clubs from all over South Florida gather to make plans with the new administration for the future.<\/p>\n

Finally, happy 70th birthday to Coral Gables Woman\u2019s Club past president and past GFWC FL District 11 director Linda Hartwell who celebrated the day with friends, family and several club sisters and book club members including this writer and several past CGWC presidents including Ruth Martinez, Arely Ruiz, Barbara Lapsley and current president Iris Segui.<\/p>\n
