{"id":323385,"date":"2026-06-29T15:07:08","date_gmt":"2026-06-29T15:07:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/323385\/"},"modified":"2026-06-29T15:07:08","modified_gmt":"2026-06-29T15:07:08","slug":"fugitive-caught-in-chicago-appears-in-court-accused-of-injuring-hollywood-police-officer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/323385\/","title":{"rendered":"Fugitive caught in Chicago appears in court accused of injuring Hollywood police officer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text text--small text--normal text--primary\">Published:\u00a0June 29, 2026 at 10:34 AM<\/p>\n<p class=\"text text--small text--normal text--primary\">Updated:\u00a0June 29, 2026 at 10:50 AM<\/p>\n<p>Corrections books Artiom Echiusciu at Broward County Main Jail in Fort Lauderdalelead-art-block.fullscreen-enterExpand<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"eager\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/ISMNCXVPVNHURECDX2YGQWJR6I.jpg\"  width=\"1280\" height=\"720\"\/>Correctional officers booked Artiom Echiusciu on Sunday in Fort Lauderdale and he appeared in court on Monday morning. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">As a police officer continues to recover after a hit-and-run crash in Hollywood, the 20-year-old man accused of causing his suffering was at the Broward County Main Jail on Monday in Fort Lauderdale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Broward Sheriff\u2019s Office Department of Detention\u2019s correctional officers booked Artiom Echiusciu on Sunday in Fort Lauderdale, and he appeared in county bond court on Monday morning. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cEchiusciu was residing in the United States illegally from Russia,\u201d Deanna Bettineschi, a spokeswoman for the Hollywood Police Department, wrote in a statement. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">At 12:25 a.m., on May 20, Echiusciu was driving a BMW at more than 100 miles per hour when he crossed a center median at Hollywood Boulevard and North Ocean Drive and struck the officer\u2019s patrol car, according to Bettineschi.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThe impact of the crash sent the officer to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries,\u201d Bettineschi wrote in the statement. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Echiusciu got out of the BMW, ran away, a Lyft driver gave him a ride, and he fled to Chicago, where the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested him on June 10, according to <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThe officer is continuing to recover, and we appreciate the outpouring of support seen from our community,\u201d Bettineschi wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Echiusciu faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury, driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage, and failing to register a vehicle. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Local 10 News Assignment Editor Carson Merlo contributed to this report. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Related stories<\/p>\n<p>\ud83c\udfe0 News From Your Neighborhood<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-article-body__copyright\">Copyright 2026 by WPLG Local10.com &#8211;
