The Bogey Creek Preserve<\/a> had more than 80 acres of land dedicated to land conservation on a tract of land about 10 miles north of downtown Jacksonville. The Preserve is now adding another 4 acres to the conservation property. NFLT officials say the additional property was purchased from the Spencer Engineering and Exploration Co. Inc.<\/p>\n The owners of the business are related to the original landowners, who sold most of the existing preserve to the NFLT in 2006. Beaches Go Green<\/a>, an environmental conservation group in Duval County\u2019s coastal area, contributed $60,000 to the latest 4-acre acquisition.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have been playing a long game in this part of Jacksonville, and this is another piece of the puzzle,\u201d\u00a0said Allison DeFoor, NFLT President and CEO. \u201cWe remain very grateful to the family for this opportunity to acquire an undeveloped parcel. Stay tuned.\u201d<\/p>\n The total conservation area for Bogey Creek Preserve now stands at 89 acres.<\/p>\n The entrance to the preserve is located at 5500 Cedar Point Road in the vast wetland areas in North Jacksonville. It\u2019s already open to the public. DeFoor said the NFLT is considering adding an outdoor learning center and will seek community input on the project.<\/p>\n There are already trails available from sunrise to sunset at the maritime hammock. It\u2019s also part of a larger network of NFLT properties in that area that covers about a mile of cypress swamps featuring picnic areas and kayak landings.
