A Fort Myers man was arrested in Cape Coral last Friday after police say he fled from a traffic stop reaching speeds of 100-plus miles per hour.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Chase Ciano, 22, has been charged with speeding at 100 mph or more, as well as fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer.\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to Cape Coral Police Department officials, on June 26 around 7:45 a.m., a motorcycle officer was near the intersection of Southeast 47th Street and Del Prado Boulevard, S., when he saw a dark gray BMW 2 Series traveling southbound at a high rate of speed.\u00a0<\/p>\n
CCPD officials said the officer estimated the driver was going roughly 60 mph in a 35 mph zone, \u201csignificantly faster than the normal flow of traffic.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
CCPD officials said the officer saw the driver wearing a white shirt, and that he activated emergency lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cInstead of stopping, the BMW continued southbound at a high rate of speed, traveled through the intersection of Del Prado Boulevard South and Cape Coral Parkway East, and turned west onto Lafayette Street,\u201d a release from CCPD stated. \u201cWhile on Lafayette Street, the officer visually estimated the BMW\u2019s speed at approximately 100 mph in a posted 30 mph speed zone. Radar confirmed the vehicle was traveling 102 mph. The officer\u2019s emergency lights and siren remained activated throughout the pursuit.\u201d<\/p>\n
Police officials said the BMW later turned onto Vincennes Street, and that another officer located the car backed into a parking space at a business in the 4800 block of Cape Coral Street.\u00a0<\/p>\n
CCPD officials said officers made contact with Ciano, who was wearing the same white shirt observed by the motors officer.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ciano was transported to Lee County Jail, he has since been released on an undisclosed bond amount.\u00a0<\/p>\n
