TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – The NFL\u2019s Detroit Lions on Monday released cornerback Terrion Arnold<\/a>, only days after his arrest over allegations that he orchestrated the abduction and beating<\/a> of three men who prosecutors believe he wrongly suspected of having stolen luxury goods and $100,000 in cash from him.<\/p>\n

The team made the announcement on the X social media platform. The team did not give a reason, but the announcement came the same day that a Florida judge set Arnold\u2019s bail at $1 million.<\/p>\n

The Tallahassee native made his first court appearance last Thursday. <\/p>\n

The former St. John Paul II football standout is accused of coordinating with his codefendants to lure three men to an apartment where they were held at gunpoint, according to the Hillsborough County State Attorney. The State claims Arnold believed the men stole over $200,000 of his property during a stay at his Airbnb. <\/p>\n

\u201cNo one has the right to take the law into their own hands. A dispute over missing property does not justify kidnapping, violence, or retaliation. This arrest is the result of months of investigative work and collaboration between the Tampa Police Department and our prosecutors. We will continue to pursue justice for the three victims by holding everyone accountable for their roles in this crime,\u201d said State Attorney Suzy Lopez in a statement released by her office.<\/p>\n

The Associated Press obtained a statement from Denise White, CEO of the agency that represents Arnold.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no credible evidence linking Mr. Arnold to these allegations,\u201d White said. \u201cInstead, the government appears to be relying on testimony from multiple convicted felons who have admitted their own involvement and may have substantial incentives to shift blame in an effort to lessen their sentences.\u201d<\/p>\n
