{"id":323824,"date":"2026-06-29T21:31:14","date_gmt":"2026-06-29T21:31:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/323824\/"},"modified":"2026-06-29T21:31:14","modified_gmt":"2026-06-29T21:31:14","slug":"key-biscayne-unveils-fy27-budget-as-values-climb-key-biscayne","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/323824\/","title":{"rendered":"Key Biscayne unveils FY27 budget as values climb | Key Biscayne"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Village of Key Biscayne officials will examine, publicly, for the first time, how the Fiscal Year 2026-27 budget might look like when they will present the Budget Estimate at Tuesday&#8217;s 6:30 p.m. Budget Workshop meeting in Council Chambers.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting is open to the public and available to view live on VKB-TV.<\/p>\n<p>Among some of the highlights residents will hear:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; The total operating budget is estimated to be $43,056,510 or $1,682,786 (4.1%) higher than the last cycle.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; But, with debt service and transfers out, the total is $44,449,897, which is $966,193 less (-2.1%) than FY 2025-26.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Police services are expected to account for $12.2 million (27.6%) of the budget, while Fire Rescue services come in at $11.4 million (25.7%). Parks, Recreation, the Community Center and athletics are next at $7.6 million (17.1%).<\/p>\n<p>In addition, there are 34 proposed Capital Improvement Projects lined up (14 new and 20 continuing), from a new fire engine and police boat to lights a Calusa Park, accounting for $64.1 million, of which $22.8 million should be covered in grants; $21.7 million from the General Obligation Bond fund; $6.9 million from the General Fund; and $12 million from Rollover Funds.<\/p>\n<p>The two biggest drivers are $26,988,182 to reduce flooding and $10,416,191 for public safety.<\/p>\n<p>The Village maintains &#8220;healthy&#8221; reserves of $27 million with an available debt capacity of $117 million.<\/p>\n<p>With a cautious eye looking ahead to possible property tax reform (that vote is in November), the Village&#8217;s property values are on the rise, meaning a 4.2% increase in taxable value (ad-valorem taxes) from the prior year would help contribute to an estimated 3.8% rise in proposed revenues ($47,133,801) across the board.<\/p>\n<p>The estimated proposed millage tax at this early stage (even before Budget Hearings 1 and 2) is 3.0066 a 4.2% difference than the current 2.8846.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a 6:15 p.m. meeting, too<\/p>\n<p>At 6:15 p.m., a <a title=\"Public notice: special council meeting on Harbor Drive roadwork\" href=\"https:\/\/www.islandernews.com\/tncms\/asset\/editorial\/fd4d4ffc-7702-4ff3-ae0b-414a7e5d6048\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Special Council meeting<\/a> will take place in Council Chambers on <a href=\"https:\/\/granicus_production_attachments.s3.amazonaws.com\/keybiscayne\/4c5526bb92d89e07a1f3bd01a53d93f40.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">three specific issues<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>* First is a resolution to approving and accepting a public access easement and dedication agreement with the Island House Apartments, Inc. at 200 Ocean Lane Drive.<\/p>\n<p>* A Capital Project authorizing the Village to select V&amp;G Constructions Solutions Corp. for the Harbor Drive milling, resurfacing and roadway reconstruction project in an amount not to exceed $2,384,688.<\/p>\n<p>* A resolution to select various consultants, pursuant to request for qualifications, for continuing architectural, engineering and planning services.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Village of Key Biscayne officials will examine, publicly, for the first time, how the Fiscal Year 2026-27 budget&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":323825,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[9],"tags":[127000,134014,134018,134013,126,134011,134019,134016,134020,123,125,124,24758,134015,134017,52710,134012],"class_list":["post-323824","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-miami","tag-budget-workshop","tag-budget-workshop-june-30","tag-flood-control-budget","tag-fy-2026-27-budget","tag-key-biscayne","tag-key-biscayne-budget","tag-key-biscayne-capital-improvement-projects","tag-key-biscayne-millage-rate","tag-key-biscayne-public-safety-budget","tag-miami","tag-miami-headlines","tag-miami-news","tag-millage-rate","tag-millage-rates-florida","tag-property-values-key-biscayne","tag-village-of-key-biscayne","tag-what-is-in-the-new-key-biscayne-budget"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/323824","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=323824"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/323824\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/323825"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=323824"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=323824"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=323824"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
