JACKSONVILLE, Texas (KLTV) \u2014 Ohio State wide receiver Devin McCuin returned to his hometown to host a football camp for local high school players, offering instruction on wide receiver skills including route running and footwork.<\/p>\n
McCuin, who transferred to Ohio State from UTSA, is one of 16 players the national champion Buckeyes signed from the transfer portal.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou know, I grew up here. You know I grew up here with the camps like these. I grew up looking up to older guys, so like no this is home, man I am so glad to be here and giving back to these younger kids,\u201d McCuin said.<\/p>\n
From UTSA to Ohio State<\/p>\n
McCuin said he left UTSA on good terms before making the move to Columbus.<\/p>\n
\u201cI loved it at UTSA. Coach Traylor, he\u2019s a wonderful coach. That\u2019s my guy. And so grateful for him and that program. I just thought it was time to go to another program and try my luck there. And I ended up at Ohio State, it is such a blessing,\u201d McCuin said.<\/p>\n
Representing East Texas<\/p>\n
McCuin was assisted at the camp by his brother and NFL-experienced mentors. He said he believes East Texas athletes are undervalued nationally and hopes his path helps change that perception.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s pretty good. We\u2019ve got a lot of athletes here in East Texas, but I don\u2019t think these Texans get a lot of respect. In my opinion, so I think it\u2019s good for me to come out and show what East Texas is all about,\u201d McCuin said.<\/p>\n
McCuin said he carries that East Texas mindset with him to Columbus.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust drive, try to be the best. I mean that\u2019s what it\u2019s all about. Just aim for the highest cloud. That\u2019s what my code is and I think these guys are able to do that here,\u201d McCuin said.<\/p>\n
