Getting from US 50 to 2nd Street will now require *** lot of extra driving. We have you covered on the detours and *** second impact. closure downtown that will start late tonight. We do need to start with that forecast because it is *** weather impact day. This heat is making this the first of several impact days. Important to make sure that you are hydrated and stay safe outside. Meteorologist Adam Burnison. This is really the beginning of this heat stretch. Yeah, we started to feel that humidity creeping up this weekend. If you were outside trying to enjoy the weather, now it’s here in full force, and that’s going to really be the issue as we go through this week because while temperatures are. Above average, I’ll say it’s not extreme heat. We’re not near record heat, it’s that humidity that is the issue because that makes these low 90s that we’ll see later this week feel closer to the triple digits, which is why we have this heat advisory in place, which, by the way, begins at 120 today, lasts all the way till Thursday at 8:00 p.m. so just an indication of the, uh, impacts lasting through this week. Also this morning you may run into *** little bit of morning fog out there, some river valley. Fog out there for many communities even around Cincinnati and northern Kentucky, but we have *** dense fog advisory for our southeast communities Highland, Adams, Brown County, Bracken, Mason, and Robertson County there in Kentucky. That’s until 9 a.m. So just be prepared for that. Could see another impact as far as that goes. You’re seeing *** little bit of it on the city cam, but as we go through this week, this tropical air, humid air staying in the forecast each day going forward. The afternoons, evenings gonna feel. Close to the triple digits, even quickly through the mornings it warms up pretty quickly. The real feel, the heat index rising into the 90s by about 11 a.m. into the triple digits later on this afternoon and into this evening. And as we mentioned, this is just the start. We’ll have actual temperatures in the 90s coming in by tomorrow and in towards the middle of the week, mostly dry conditions before changes by the end of the week. If you’re trying to get on the Ronald Reagan Cross Country Highway, we’ve had this for the last few hours now. It was initially *** disabled vehicle. We made some calls. This was actually an overturned vehicle. One person sent to the hospital. You can get by, but do be mindful of first responders, tow trucks in that area. Looking back at the big map, we do have that icon. There’s also *** disabled vehicle on 275, I believe it’s on eastbound, the upper right side of the loop, but. Nobody is being held up there, but as far as your commute, things are looking good. We’ll keep an eye on this. Megan. All right, Steven, thank you. It is 6:45 right now and we have breaking news in the Middle East. The US and Iran are engaged in another cycle of *** to tat bombings, testing the fragile ceasefire. All of this coming as talks between the two sides are expected to resume tomorrow. Washington correspondent Rachel Hirsheimer joining us live from the White House. Rachel, how is the president responding? Well, Megan, good morning. President Trump is accusing Iran of violating the ceasefire agreement. He’s also warning to take military action to get the job done against Iran. Now this is not the first time the president has launched these verbal threats against Iran since this war began about 4 months ago. The strikes over the weekend are sparking these new comments from the president. On Sunday, Iran attacked commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz and targeted American allies. This was in response to US airstrikes. Against the Islamic Republic, seen in this video released by US Central Command for Iran’s drone attack, efforts to keep the strait open without Iran’s oversight has added fuel to the fire. Iran’s foreign minister reiterated Tehran must control the strait. That’s the waterway that sees about 1\/5 of the world’s oil traffic. Now since the US and Iran signed *** memorandum of understanding, they’ve been discussing arrangements on the Strait and also the future of Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium, which can be used to build *** nuclear weapon. Iran has *** choice to make. It’s going to be *** responsible nation, or it can continue down this path to absolute ruin. And don’t think for *** second that President Trump isn’t going to leave every option on the table to achieve not just our aim, the entire entire world’s aim that Iran never has *** nuke. Now Pakistan, *** key mediator, said talks between the two sides will resume tomorrow, and the Trump administration also confirmed that so far nothing has been canceled at the White House, Rachel Hirsheimer to BWT News 5. Rachel, thank you so much. We appreciate you. 6:47 now closures. are starting to stack up in downtown Cincinnati as work ramps up on the Brent Brent Corridor project. One big change was just put in place overnight. Another one is happening tonight. WLWT News’s Giacomo Luca is live by the closure that just started. This will affect folks, Giacomo, who come in from the west side of town. Yeah, that’s right, Steve, and that first closure along US 50 East to 2nd Street, it’s now in place and that will be permanent. That means drivers coming from the west side, they’re now going to need to take the Freeman Avenue exit to Merring Way. You’ll follow that toward the river before making your way up Elm Street. Then you’ll pass Paycor Stadium before reaching 2nd Street. Then there’s also another closure taking effect tonight at 11 p.m. The 2nd Street exit will close from I-75 south. Drivers will instead need to detour onto 5th Street, then weave their way through downtown to get to 2nd Street. OOT’s also installing new signs to help with the changes. Officials will also be installing *** new temporary ramp to 3rd Street, but that’s not expected to be ready until this fall. Of course there’s some other closures. All right, Giacomo, thank you. And now to that breaking news in Lincoln Heights. Traffic now moving again along Jackson Street after *** nearly 6 hour shooting investigation. Police have the street blocked off since before 1 a.m. They just cleared the scene in the last 15 minutes or so. WLWT News 5’s Richard Childs was there with officers all morning as they sorted through evidence. Hamilton County Sheriff’s deputies have been on scene since about 12:43 this morning. That’s when reports of shots fired came here to Lincoln Heights. This is the intersection of Jackson and Liggett. Now emergency medical personnel confirmed one person was shot, transported to the hospital with what EMS and Lincoln Heights fire described as life threatening injuries. Sheriff’s deputies have been working along with Lackland police here on the scene. They’ve been here throughout the morning, had *** chance to talk with the victim’s family. They simply say they just don’t know now at this time there has not been an update. Given on the condition of the victim, police not giving us any suspect information as well. Hamilton County Sheriff’s deputy asking anyone with information regarding the shooting to contact the patrol bureau. Reporting in Lincoln Heights, Richard Childs, WLWT News 5. All right, Richard, thank you. Now to breaking news in Over the Rhine where *** man was shot in the leg right by Ziegler Park overnight. Police first responding around 11 o’clock along Sycamore Street. Officers say the man who was shot was taken to UC hospital and is expected to survive. Not clear though what led up to the shooting or if any arrests have been made. This is just one of several shootings that happened across Greater Cincinnati over the weekend. We do have *** closer look at those investigations over on WLWT.com. And breaking overnight in Fairfield Township, *** family of 4 managed to escape *** fire that tore through their home. The fire started around 1 this morning. And Eora Lane, that’s up the street from Princeton Pike and that Home Depot there. Investigators say somebody inside the home woke up, smelled smoke, and then got the rest of the family up and out of the house safely. The flames started on the back deck, then spread inside through *** glass door up to the attic. Crews from Fairfield, Hamilton, and Liberty Townships helped in the response. Neighboring homes were also evacuated out of precaution. The fire did cause extensive damage, but the cause remains under investigation. Local organizations are sending aid to central Kentucky after flooding over the weekend killed 4 people. Matthew 25 Ministry is sending *** disaster response team as well today. They’re also collecting donations. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear declaring *** state of emergency, joining at least 5 counties in making *** similar move, trying to free up funding to, uh, have search and rescue efforts in those counties. We went. Down to Madison County, this is just south of Lexington where 3 of those 4 deaths were reported. Communities there are facing widespread destruction with homes wiped out and at least 1 church destroyed. Officials have not named any of the people who were killed yet as they work to notify family. Governor Beshear says he does plan to request federal assistance in the wake of these floods. Right now, the city of Cincinnati is taking steps to keep its employees safe. As we brace for the heat this week, curbside collection is happening an hour earlier than usual this week. It’s all to keep crews out, to keep them out of the hottest part of the day between, you know, 1:30 and 4:00, 2 to 3 o’clock. We’re also watching to see if the city will open its recreation centers as cooling stations. The city did that *** few weeks ago when we had *** few hot days, but the heat this week appears to be even more long lasting and impactful. One of the biggest steps you can take is to know the difference between heat. and heat stroke. Signs of heat exhaustion include dizziness, thirst, heavy sweating, nausea, and weakness. Heat stroke is more serious, and you might begin to show signs of confusion, extreme headaches, and you might actually stop sweating, but you will have red, hot, dry skin. In both cases, you need to act fast, get to *** cool area, loosen your clothing, drink water, but if you see signs of heat stroke, call 911 immediately.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
