By: Colt Dodd<\/a> 7:00 am on June 30, 2026<\/p>\n An affiliate of The Peebles Corp. wants to proceed with a workforce housing development in Miami-Dade.<\/p>\n The venture would replace the shuttered Barclay Hotel, a 33,376-square-foot hotel that was constructed in the mid-1930s. It was later converted into the 66-unit Barclay Plaza Apartments, which was deemed structurally unsafe in 2014.<\/p>\n In the hotel\u2019s place would rise a six-story building featuring 105 workforce housing units. Miami-Dade County<\/a> currently defines workforce housing as housing reserved for tenants earning within 60 to 140 percent of the area median income (AMI). Miami\u2019s AMI was $87,200 as of 2025. The mid-rise building would also host 1,000 square feet of retail and just over 1,800 square feet of amenities.<\/p>\n 1940 Barclay Partners LLC is the developer. The firm responded to a request for proposals in 2022 to build workforce housing on the Barclay Hotel site.
