{"id":324676,"date":"2026-06-30T14:19:07","date_gmt":"2026-06-30T14:19:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/324676\/"},"modified":"2026-06-30T14:19:07","modified_gmt":"2026-06-30T14:19:07","slug":"broward-everglades-fire-update-nbc-6-south-florida","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/324676\/","title":{"rendered":"Broward Everglades fire update \u2013 NBC 6 South Florida"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A brush fire continued to burn thousands of acres in western Broward County Tuesday as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.<\/p>\n<p>The Atlantic fire was burning near the Sawgrass Expressway and Commercial Boulevard with around 4,755 acres burned, according to the Florida Forest Service.<\/p>\n<p>Fire officials said the blaze was 0% contained but the flames are not threatening homes or businesses.<\/p>\n<p>The thick smoke drew residents outside, many stopping to take photos of the fire officials say was likely sparked by lightning. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve had reconnaissance flight, we&#8217;re monitoring, they&#8217;re looking at the weather, fire activity, direction,&#8221; said Michelle Danielson, with the Florida Forest Service.<\/p>\n<p>But damp conditions in the Everglades are complicating the firefight. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Even though it&#8217;s been a drought year, it&#8217;s holding water, so some of our heavy machinery equipment won&#8217;t necessarily be able to hold up,&#8221; Danielson said. <\/p>\n<p>This fire comes as three other blazes\u2014the Quarry, Well and Corrections fires\u2014in Miami-Dade have been burning for several days and remain active, authorities said. The largest of these, the Quarry fire, consumed more than 19,000 acres. <\/p>\n<p>According to the Florida Forest Service, all of those fires are at least 90% contained.<\/p>\n<p>Low rain chances in today&#8217;s forecast<\/p>\n<p>Expect another hot and humid day on Tuesday across South Florida with low rain chances continuing as well. <\/p>\n<p>Highs will push into the mid-90s with feels-like numbers 105 degrees and higher. But starting on Wednesday, a front will stall just north of South Florida, but do just enough to trigger showers and thunderstorms.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">6\/30\/26 4:35 AM: Scattered to numerous showers and storms will develop this afternoon with the highest chances remaining over the interior as well as SW Florida.
