TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Progress on Tallahassee\u2019s Southside Transit Center, meant to help improve bus transportation for residents, keeps getting delayed. <\/p>\n
Director of Construction John Powell said they\u2019re not where they wanted to be at this point in construction, but they\u2019re making significant progress in getting the station ready. <\/p>\n
Earlier this year<\/a>, the project was delayed after a subcontractor did not properly install a steel frame. Powell said, as with any construction project, there\u2019s always the chance for delays.<\/p>\n \u201cAs is often the case with construction, we encountered some issues with materials and labor and so forth, so we are still looking forward to opening this year,\u201d Powell said.<\/p>\n More Tallahassee news: <\/p>\n He said they are finally back on track and ready to make a lot of progress this summer. <\/p>\n \u201cWe anticipate a significant amount of progress this summer and even in July you will see the exterior and interior wall framing go up, you will see the staircases go up, you\u2019ll even start to see the building being sort of closed in with walls and windows and brick veneers so we\u2019re very excited about the upcoming progress this summer,\u201d Powell said.<\/p>\n The transit center is located at the corner of Orange Avenue and Meridian Street and city leaders have said this location will make it easier and faster for people to get where they need to go. <\/p>\n \u201cThis will be an important addition to our overall bus system, which we anticipate will improve route frequency, efficiency, timeliness and reliability,\u201d Powell said.<\/p>\n This center was originally scheduled to be finished by the end of 2025, but Powell said they are now expecting to be finished by the end of 2026.<\/p>\n To keep up with the latest news as it develops, follow WCTV on Facebook<\/a>, Instagram<\/a>, YouTube<\/a>, Nextdoor<\/a> <\/a>and X<\/a> (Twitter<\/a>).<\/p>\n Have a news tip or see an error?
