One of Miami\u2019s most influential unions has thrown its support behind Democrat\u00a0Alex Vindman in the race for U.S. Senate.<\/p>\n

The SEIU Local 1991<\/a>, which represents nurses, attending physicians and healthcare professionals in the Jackson Health System, endorsed the retired Army lieutenant colonel.<\/p>\n

\u201cFlorida deserves leaders with the courage to do what\u2019s right, even when it\u2019s difficult,\u201d said Martha Baker, President and Executive Director of SEIU 1991.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlex Vindman risked the career he spent 20 years building because he refused to stay silent in the face of a President\u2019s abuse of power. That kind of integrity and commitment to our democracy is exactly what Florida needs in Congress. SEIU 1991 is proud to endorse Alex Vindman for United States Senator.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vindman is aiming to unseat U.S. Sen.\u00a0Ashley Moody, a Republican\u00a0who was appointed<\/a>\u00a0to the seat by Gov.\u00a0Ron DeSantis and now faces voters in November.<\/p>\n

The union\u2019s endorsement comes at a critical moment, just ahead of the August 18 Democratic Primary, where Vindman faces a challenge from progressive state Rep.\u00a0Angie Nixon for the party\u2019s nomination.<\/p>\n

Vindman welcomed the backing from the Miami-based labor group. His campaign highlighted his support for the Protecting the Right to Organize\u00a0<\/a>Act<\/a>, a key priority for the national SEIU, and noted his push to expand\u00a0Occupational Safety and Health Administration<\/a> protections for workers in large facilities.<\/p>\n

Vindman\u2019s healthcare platform centers on lowering the cost of coverage and prescription drugs, a message aimed squarely at voters concerned about rising medical expenses.<\/p>\n
