A woman in Hernando County, Florida, allegedly admitted to being frustrated and “rage-baited” by pedestrians while behind the wheel. As per the sheriff’s office, this led to a very angry driver reaching very fast speeds and crashing into a very stationary tree.<\/p>\n
According to a news release issued by the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office<\/a> (HCSO), the incident occurred on Monday, June 29, 2026. A patrolling HCSO deputy responded to an unspecified residential neighborhood after authorities received reports of a car crash.<\/p>\n Upon arrival, the deputy came across a single-vehicle crash. According to witnesses, the now-heavily damaged car had been speeding through the neighborhood.<\/p>\n Not only that, but the car had also swerved and run a stop sign. Finally, the alleged reckless driver ended her short trip when her car met a tree.<\/p>\n ‘Rage-Baited’<\/p>\n The responding deputy began investigating the incident. He made contact with the driver, identified as 25-year-old Linda McCormack.<\/p>\n According to the HCSO, the woman was very transparent with the deputy. She allegedly admitted that the crash had stemmed from feelings of frustration and agitation.<\/p>\n Furthermore, she accused pedestrians of “rage-baiting” her before the crash, the sheriff’s office said. According to McCormack, people were walking near the roadway, although no specifics were shared by the HCSO.<\/p>\n Alleged Admission<\/p>\n With the stream of emotions influencing her, McCormack’s hands grabbed the wheel and her feet pressed on the pedals. Allegedly, she admitted to accelerating instead of slowing down or “remaining patient.”<\/p>\n According to witnesses, McCormack was speeding right before her car crashed into the tree. And even though pedestrians were “near the roadway,” no one, including McCormack, was injured.<\/p>\n Still, McCormack had to face the consequences of her actions. Unfortunately for her, HCSO deputies would later come across something in her car that would lead to additional charges.<\/p>\n Arrested and Charged<\/p>\n The HCSO reported that deputies found marijuana inside McCormack’s vehicle. The 25-year-old didn’t have a medical marijuana license, the sheriff’s office said.<\/p>\n As a result, Linda McCormack was arrested and charged with reckless driving and possession of marijuana under 20 grams. Additionally, she was also cited for running a posted stop sign.<\/p>\n If convicted, McCormack could face up to 90 days in jail if this was her reckless driving offense.
