{"id":326916,"date":"2026-07-02T04:46:26","date_gmt":"2026-07-02T04:46:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/326916\/"},"modified":"2026-07-02T04:46:26","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T04:46:26","slug":"new-law-expands-florida-swimming-voucher-program-nbc-6-south-florida","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/326916\/","title":{"rendered":"New law expands Florida swimming voucher program \u2013 NBC 6 South Florida"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.floridahealth.gov\/individual-family-health\/child-infant-youth\/drowning-prevention\/swimmingvouchers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Swimming Lesson Voucher Program <\/a>in Florida has expanded eligibility, allowing for more children to benefit from free swim lessons.<\/p>\n<p>The new law, which takes effect July 1, expands the age range of eligible children from four years and younger to between ages one and seven.<\/p>\n<p>The original law created in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcmiami.com\/news\/local\/desantis-signs-bill-that-provides-free-swimming-lessons-to-florida-children\/3286392\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2024<\/a>, put in place to prevent child drownings, targets children in low income homes to help them learn a vital skill before any accidents could occur.<\/p>\n<p>The eligibility requirements are that the family income should be no more than 200% of the federal poverty level and they must be Florida residents.<\/p>\n<p>The lessons includes eight sessions that normally span across a two week period.
