{"id":327094,"date":"2026-07-02T10:06:55","date_gmt":"2026-07-02T10:06:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/327094\/"},"modified":"2026-07-02T10:06:55","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T10:06:55","slug":"tampa-bay-lightning-sign-defenseman-john-carlson-to-2-year-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/327094\/","title":{"rendered":"Tampa Bay Lightning sign defenseman John Carlson to 2-year deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>July 2 (UPI) &#8212; The Tampa Bay Lightning signed free agent defenseman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upi.com\/topic\/John_Carlson\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"John Carlson\" class=\"tpstyle\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">John Carlson<\/a> to a two-year, $17 million contract, general manager Julien BriseBois announced.<\/p>\n<p>The 36-year-old defenseman appeared in 71 games last season, which he split with the Anaheim Ducks and Washington Capitals.\n<\/p>\n<p>Carlson joined the Ducks in a March trade. The Ducks traded Carlson&#8217;s negotiating rights to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. He became an unrestricted free agent Wednesday after the sides failed to agree to a contract.<\/p>\n<p>Carlson totaled 14 goals and 46 assists last season. The 17-year veteran registered a career-best 60 assists in 2019-20, when he was named an All-Star for the second consecutive season.<\/p>\n<p>He joined the Capitals as the No. 27 overall pick in the 2008 NHL Draft.
