The Jacksonville City Council has approved a $129.8 million budget for the 2027 fiscal year that maintains the city’s property tax rate while funding public safety, parks and economic development projects.<\/p>\n
The budget was adopted during a special council meeting on June 29 and represents a 9% decrease from the city’s adopted budget for fiscal year 2026.<\/p>\n
Under a new state law, Jacksonville and other municipalities in Onslow County will continue using property values established during the county’s 2022 revaluation for the upcoming fiscal year.<\/p>\n
The City Council approved a property tax rate of 63 cents per $100 of assessed value.<\/p>\n
According to the city, the budget appropriates $34.9 million for public safety, funding police, fire and 911 communications services.<\/p>\n
The spending plan also includes funding for:<\/p>\n
A new city-owned dog park at Jacksonville CommonsA new fire apparatus for the Jacksonville Fire DepartmentJacksonville Onslow Economic Development (JOED)Community support funding for local partner organizationsConstruction of the Jacksonville Inspiration Field, an accessible playing field for athletes with disabilitiesInfrastructure for the Uptown Jacksonville project<\/p>\n
City officials said staffing levels will remain unchanged during the new fiscal year, although some positions will continue to be evaluated to improve efficiency and better meet community needs.<\/p>\n
The budget also includes funding to continue the city’s support of Camp Lejeune, Marine Corps Air Station New River, the Carolina Museum of the Marine and the Association of Defense Communities.<\/p>\n
