ORLANDO, Fla. (WWSB) – The Orange County Sheriff\u2019s Office has released a disturbing body camera video of three deputies shooting a woman who refused to drop a knife outside of her home.<\/p>\n
The sheriff\u2019s office says it posted a six-minute video on social media July 2 in it\u2019s commitment to transparency and to give the public the \u201cfull context\u201d of the incident, \u201crather than rely on short snippets they may see elsewhere,\u201d the post on the social media site X said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe video is being released pursuant to the Orange County Sheriff\u2019s Office Release of Video Recordings in Critical Incidents policy,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n
On June 3 at about 1 p.m., deputies responded to a home in the Dr. Phillips area of Orlando after a neighbor reported there was a woman screaming outside of a home.<\/p>\n
When deputies arrived, they knocked on the door of the residence, and 59-year-old Rosalia Hodges came out, holding a knife. <\/p>\n
Deputies retreated back toward the street and ordered her to drop the knife several times.<\/p>\n
She refused to drop the knife and shouted \u201cI\u2019ll kill you\u201d as she continued to advance.<\/p>\n
Three deputies fired their weapons multiple times, hitting Hodges, who fell to the sidewalk. Deputies rendered aid until paramedics arrived. She was taken to the hospital, where she died.<\/p>\n
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting and will turn over its findings to the State Attorney\u2019s Office for review, the sheriff\u2019s office said. <\/p>\n
The deputies who fired their weapons are on temporary, paid administrative leave pending the initial FDLE review.<\/p>\n
