SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 Newly released body-camera footage<\/a> on Thursday from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office<\/a> shows first responders navigating the murky waters of the Econlockhatchee River after a fatal alligator attack that claimed the life of an Orlando woman. <\/p>\n

FWC identified the victim as 31-year-old Brittany Clark <\/a>of Orlando. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission <\/a>said Clark was in approximately 3 feet of water along the river near the Barr Street Trailhead in the Little Big Econ State Forest on Sunday when she was attacked by an alligator.<\/p>\n

The newly released video captures emergency crews searching the water and responding to the remote area where the attack occurred. According to FWC, first responders were called to the scene around 1:30 p.m. after reports that a swimmer had been bitten by an alligator.<\/p>\n

Clark suffered catastrophic injuries and was transported to a hospital, where she later died. Officials previously said her boyfriend attempted to pull her from the alligator’s grasp and made the initial 911 call <\/a>for help. <\/p>\n

Investigators said drought conditions across Florida <\/a>have left water levels lower than normal, including in the section of the Econlockhatchee River where the attack took place. Wildlife officials warned that despite the shallow water, alligators can remain difficult to spot and can quickly disappear beneath the surface, reducing visibility for swimmers and others using local waterways. <\/p>\n

Following the attack, wildlife officers captured and removed two large alligators from the area: one measuring about 13 feet and another about 12.5 feet. Samples were collected from both animals as part of the ongoing investigation. <\/p>\n

The incident remains under investigation by FWC and local authorities. <\/p>\n

Family members have remembered Clark as a “fun-loving spirit” who enjoyed spending time outdoors, cycling and being on the water whenever she could. <\/p>\n

Alligator expert Frank Robb told WESH <\/a>that fatal alligator attacks remain extremely rare and said investigators will use DNA testing and other forensic evidence to determine whether either of the two large alligators removed from the area was involved in the attack.
