{"id":329103,"date":"2026-07-04T05:35:38","date_gmt":"2026-07-04T05:35:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/329103\/"},"modified":"2026-07-04T05:35:38","modified_gmt":"2026-07-04T05:35:38","slug":"florida-panthers-acquire-goaltender-jacob-markstrom-and-forward-angus-crookshank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/329103\/","title":{"rendered":"Florida Panthers Acquire Goaltender Jacob Markstrom and Forward Angus Crookshank"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SUNRISE, Fla.\u00a0&#8211; Florida Panthers President of Hockey Operations and General Manager\u00a0Bill Zito\u00a0announced today that the club has\u00a0acquired\u00a0goaltender\u00a0Jacob Markstrom\u00a0and forward\u00a0Angus Crookshank\u00a0from\u00a0the\u00a0New Jersey Devils\u00a0in exchange for\u00a0forward\u00a0Evan Rodrigues, forward\u00a0Jesper\u00a0Boqvist and forward Ben Steeves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJacob\u00a0is an established veteran leader in this league who possesses\u00a0size and\u00a0a\u00a0relentless\u00a0drive to win,\u201d\u00a0said Zito.\u00a0\u201cWe are excited for him to compete alongside our\u00a0established group\u00a0and return to\u00a0South Florida.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also want to extend our sincere gratitude to Evan and Jesper for their contributions to our organization,\u201d\u00a0said Zito.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Markstrom,\u00a036,\u00a0appeared in 44 contests between the pipes for the New Jersey Devils in 2025-26, posting a 23-19-1\u00a0record and one shutout.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a06-foot-6, 207-pound native of Gavle, Sweden\u00a0has accumulated a\u00a0264-231-64 record over\u00a0578 career NHL games with New Jersey (2024-25 to 2025-26),\u00a0the\u00a0Calgary\u00a0Flames\u00a0(2020-21 to 2023-24),\u00a0the\u00a0Vancouver\u00a0Canucks\u00a0(2013-14 to 2019-20)\u00a0and Florida (2010-11 to 2013-14).\u00a0Since the 2019-20 season, Markstrom\u00a0ranks in the top five among NHL goaltenders in\u00a0games played (T-4: 349),\u00a0time on ice (4: 20424:38)\u00a0and\u00a0shutouts (T-5: 22).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Markstrom\u00a0was named a Vezina Trophy\u00a0finalist after\u00a0posting a\u00a0.922 save percentage and a league-leading nine shutouts in 2021-22\u00a0with Calgary\u00a0along with a 37-15-9 record.\u00a0He\u00a0also was named to the 2020 NHL All-Star Game,\u00a0the 2022 NHL Second All-Star\u00a0Team\u00a0and\u00a0he\u00a0has\u00a0produced nine consecutive campaigns with at least 20 wins.\u00a0In the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Markstrom\u00a0has appeared\u00a0in 31 games between New Jersey, Vancouver and\u00a0Calgary\u00a0logging a cumulative\u00a0.911 save percentage and two shutouts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Markstrom\u00a0has competed in 165 American Hockey League (AHL) games with Rochester (2010-11), San Antonio (2011-12 to 2013-14)\u00a0and Utica (2014-15 to 2015-16),\u00a0posting an 84-65-12 record.\u00a0In 2014-15, his\u00a01.88 goals against average ranked second among AHL netminders while his .934 save percentage ranked\u00a0third. He was named the AHL Goaltender of the Month in February 2014 and again in October 2015,\u00a0representing\u00a0Utica at the AHL All-Star Game that season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Prior to his\u00a0North American\u00a0career, Markstrom spent three seasons (2007-08 to 2009-10) with\u00a0Brynas\u00a0IF of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL),\u00a0where he led the league in shutouts (5), goals against average (2.01) and save percentage (.927) during the 2009-10 campaign. He was named the Swedish Goalie of the Year\u00a0and the Swedish Junior Hockey Player of the Year.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On the international stage, Markstrom\u00a0backstopped\u00a0Sweden at the\u00a02026\u00a0Olympic Winter Games\u00a0Milano Cortina, posting\u00a0a 2-1-0 record, .936 save percentage and 1.97 goals against average\u00a0over three games. He\u00a0has competed in the 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019 and 2025 IIHF World Championships, earning\u00a0a gold medal with Sweden in 2013 and bronze in 2010 and 2025.\u00a0Markstrom also captured silver (2009) and bronze (2010) at the IIHF U20 World Junior Championships.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Markstrom was originally selected\u00a0by Florida\u00a0in the second round (31st\u00a0overall) of the 2008 NHL Draft.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Crookshank, 26,\u00a0netted a goal in eight games with the Devils\u00a02025-26,\u00a0also\u00a0skating\u00a0in\u00a060 AHL games with the Utica Comets\u00a0where he led the team with 24 goals and ranked second in points (24-12-36).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 5-foot-10, 183-pound native of North Vancouver,\u00a0British Columbia\u00a0has appeared in 29 NHL games across three seasons with\u00a0the\u00a0Ottawa\u00a0Senators\u00a0(2023-24\u00a0to 2024-25) and New Jersey (2025-26), posting five points (3-2-5).\u00a0Across seven AHL seasons\u00a0with Belleville (2020-21,\u00a02022-23\u00a0to 2024-25) and Utica (2025-26), Crookshank has\u00a0amassed 185 points\u00a0(101-84-185)\u00a0in 262 career games.\u00a0He was named to the AHL All-Star Game in 2023-24.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Prior to his professional career, Crookshank skated in\u00a090 games over three seasons with the NCAA\u2019s University of New Hampshire\u00a0Wildcats, producing\u00a063 points (35-28-63).\u00a0He was named to the Hockey East Third All-Star Team in 2020-21\u00a0after leading UNH in goals scored.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Crookshank was originally selected\u00a0by Ottawa\u00a0in the fifth round (126th\u00a0overall)\u00a0of\u00a0the 2018 NHL Draft.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>2026-27 Florida Panthers Territory Memberships are available now!
