MIAMI \u2014 The sounds of a marching band, parade cheers and colorful floats filled Key Biscayne on Saturday as families gathered along Crandon Boulevard for the annual Fourth of July parade.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been pretty good. She\u2019s enjoying it a lot. She got a toy and wet,\u201d one attendee said.<\/p>\n
Others said they were happy to celebrate with the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just like being out seeing the community celebrating the nation. I think it\u2019s a great time to be out,\u201d another person said.<\/p>\n
Across South Florida, people turned out for local events celebrating the nation\u2019s 250th anniversary.<\/p>\n
\u201cHappy birthday America,\u201d one person shouted.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust be happy to be free, you know what I mean. Be free in America. It\u2019s a great feeling,\u201d said Cliff Sebastian.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt sounds easy, but you know in all this celebration we\u2019re also keeping the memory of those who actually made this happen all the way back 250 years ago,\u201d said Yamilet Diaz.<\/p>\n
Diaz went all out for the Fourth of July, wearing a bedazzled hat, patriotic shirt and pants.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was born in Cuba where I had no freedom growing up. When I was able to escape at the age of 15, I felt like I was born again. For me, I don\u2019t take anything for granted, not one second of the life we\u2019re able to live here,\u201d Diaz said.<\/p>\n
At Tropical Park, Miami-Dade County hosted its own Fourth of July celebration.<\/p>\n
Thousands were expected to pack the park for activities, food trucks, entertainment and, of course, fireworks.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s wonderful. It\u2019s a blessing,\u201d said Elaine Simpson of Miami.<\/p>\n
For many, the holiday was about celebrating freedom and spending time with loved ones.<\/p>\n
\u201cBeing with family, friends, meeting people.\u201d<\/p>\n
As the celebrations continued across South Florida, the chants echoed through the crowds:<\/p>\n
\u201cHappy Fourth of July.\u201d<\/p>\n
