Thousands watched from the ground, from their balconies or from rooftops across downtown Orlando as the overcast skies were lit up to celebrate the nation&#8217;s 250th birthday. The event started at 4 p.m. Saturday but thunderstorms and lightning kept the crowds at bay until later in the evening. Fireworks started launching just before 9:10 p.m. &#8220;I&#8217;ve been here every year, except last year,&#8221; said U.S. Coast Guard veteran Roger Turcotte as he watched the Orlando Concert Band prepare to start playing at the bandshell.
