ORLANDO, Fla. \u2013 Rain and storms didn\u2019t dampen the patriotic spirit in downtown Orlando Friday night as thousands lined Lake Eola to watch \u201cFireworks at the Fountain\u201d light up the sky for the nation\u2019s 250th birthday. <\/p>\n
Families staked out spots along the lake for live music, games and vendors \u2014 with kids shooting hoops and getting face paint before the fireworks began. <\/p>\n
Umi, visiting Orlando, said celebrating the Fourth of July in the U.S. for the first time with family made the night special. \u201cSeeing the fireworks and being out here with my family and my friends, it gets me happy in my heart,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
Others said the event is a tradition that brings people together. \u201cAmerica is the land of immigrants \u2014 we\u2019re all from different places,\u201d one attendee said. \u201cIt\u2019s great to be out here and celebrating diversity and how far we\u2019ve come.\u201d <\/p>\n
Ann Mary, an Orlando resident, called the Lake Eola show a must-see. \u201cIt\u2019s so iconic that if you\u2019re in this area you\u2019re going to want to be here,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
Kids were especially fired up for the main event. Violet Anstey, visiting Orlando, said she was most excited for the fireworks \u201cbecause they\u2019re noisy, loud and pretty,\u201d adding, \u201cIt\u2019s so amazing. I love Orlando.\u201d <\/p>\n
Despite earlier thunder and lightning, the crowd stayed \u2014 eating barbecue, playing games and waiting for the fireworks to start. Another visitor, Liz Tibensky, said she went all out in patriotic gear \u201cto show camaraderie and togetherness.\u201d<\/p>\n
