Firefighters immediately went to work, attacking the fire from multiple sides to keep it from spreading any farther. Eglin Air Force Base Fire & Emergency Services responded to assist with suppression efforts.

After just over 40 minutes, firefighters brought the blaze under control. Fortunately, no one was injured.

The fire is believed to have been caused by the improper disposal of used fireworks. The incident remains under investigation.

“This is exactly why we stress fireworks safety every year,” said Fire Chief Jonathon Davis. “Even after the show is over, fireworks can stay hot enough to start a fire. Taking a few extra minutes to soak them before throwing them away can protect your home and your family.”

Walton County Fire Rescue reminds residents to soak used fireworks in water before disposing of them in a metal container away from homes, garages, and other combustible materials.

Copyright 2026 WALA.
