Fort Lauderdale, FL – A construction crane collapsed at a Fort Lauderdale job site Thursday evening, prompting an emergency response and an investigation by local and federal officials into what caused the incident.<\/p>\n
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded shortly after 6 p.m. to the construction site at 840 Federal Highway, where the new YMCA facility is being built. <\/p>\n
Officials said the crane’s boom fell onto the partially completed structure, but no workers or bystanders were injured.<\/p>\n
Emergency crews secured the scene and temporarily closed one lane of Federal Highway while they evaluated the area and ensured there were no additional hazards. <\/p>\n
Fire rescue personnel confirmed the crane truck remained upright even though the boom had collapsed onto the building.<\/p>\n
A city building inspector was called to the site to assess the damage, while investigators from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are leading the investigation into what caused the collapse. <\/p>\n
Officials have not determined whether equipment failure, human error or another factor contributed to the incident.<\/p>\n
