JACKSONVILLE, N.C. \u2014 Three people are facing felony charges after charging documents say a Jacksonville police officer was seriously injured while responding to a disturbance at a home on the Fourth of July.<\/p>\n
According to arrest warrants, officers responded to a home on Ravenwood Drive after receiving a complaint about loud noise or music. Court documents allege several people resisted officers as they attempted to investigate, leaving an officer with serious injuries to the back and knee.<\/p>\n
Twenty-year-old Sergio J. Ovalle of Tarawa Terrace is charged with felony resisting a public officer causing serious injury. He also faces charges of driving after consuming alcohol while under the age of 21 and failing to stop at a stop sign or flashing red light.<\/p>\n
According to arrest warrants, Ovalle was among the people accused of resisting officers during the incident. Separate traffic citations state he failed to stop at a stop sign while turning from Blue Creek School Road onto Canady Road and had consumed alcohol while under the legal drinking age.<\/p>\n
Eighteen-year-old Roselyn Flores of Camp Lejeune is charged with felony resisting a public officer causing serious injury, felony assault by strangulation, felony assault inflicting physical injury on a law enforcement officer and consuming alcohol while under the age of 19.<\/p>\n
Arrest warrants allege Flores jumped onto the officer’s back, wrapped an arm around the officer’s neck and choked the officer while others assaulted the officer. According to the warrants, the officer became winded and began seeing black spots during the alleged assault.<\/p>\n
Online court records also state Flores told officers her name was not Roselyn Flores. The same records say investigators were unable to immediately confirm her identity because she was argumentative, combative and unable to communicate with officers.<\/p>\n
Court records also show Flores is facing unrelated traffic charges stemming from a July 3 traffic stop by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. According to citations, she is charged with violating the restrictions of a learner’s permit and failing to stop for a steady red light after troopers said she made an illegal left turn at the intersection of U.S. 17 and Yopp Road in Jacksonville.<\/p>\n
Twenty-four-year-old Jairo Felindo Mejia Diaz of Jacksonville is charged with felony resisting a public officer causing serious injury.<\/p>\n
According to arrest warrants, Mejia Diaz was among those who allegedly assaulted the officer. The warrants allege the group attacked the officer, resulting in serious injuries to the officer’s back and knee.<\/p>\n
Ovalle remains in the Onslow County Jail without bond.<\/p>\n
Online jail records show Flores and Mejia Diaz are each being held in the Onslow County Jail under secured bonds.<\/p>\n
