Syracuse, N.Y. \u2014 Syracuse has flipped four-star safety Tedarius Hughes from Florida State, he told Rivals<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Hughes, a 2026 product, had been committed to Florida State since July 2024. That did not stop Fran Brown\u2019s pursuit of him, though.<\/p>\n

Billed at six feet, three inches and 180 pounds, Hughes plays at Miami Northwestern with four-star wide receiver Calvin Russell III, a Syracuse commit. He was with Russell over the weekend as the two visited Syracuse, beginning with Friday\u2019s game against North Carolina.<\/p>\n

Like Russell, Hughes credited<\/a> Brown for his commitment. Syracuse\u2019s 30th commit in the Class of 2026 is the No. 38 safety in the country and the fourth Orange commit with a four-star composite ranking on 247Sports.<\/p>\n

Hughes is the Seminoles\u2019 12th decommit of the 2026 cycle and was being pursued by Colorado, Miami and Nebraska.<\/p>\n

Syracuse\u2019s 2026 class ranks 23rd in the country and fifth in the ACC behind Clemson, North Carolina, Florida State and Miami. The Orange travels to No. 18 Miami on Saturday (3:30 p.m.; TV: ESPN).<\/p>\n

Brown previously said that Syracuse\u2019s losing streak wouldn\u2019t affect its recruiting. So far, it hasn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

Flipping Hughes was one of Syracuse\u2019s final 2026 priorities.<\/p>\n

With the early signing period one month away, Syracuse is in good position to land one of its best classes in recent memory.<\/p>\n
