{"id":331251,"date":"2026-07-06T22:46:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-06T22:46:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/331251\/"},"modified":"2026-07-06T22:46:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-06T22:46:09","slug":"rene-flowers-frank-peterman-marlene-shaw-back-trevor-mallory-in-st-pete-district-6-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/331251\/","title":{"rendered":"Rene Flowers, Frank Peterman, Marlene Shaw back Trevor Mallory in St. Pete District 6 race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Three current and former elected officials are supporting <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/tag\/trevor-mallory\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Trevor Mallory<\/a> in the race for St. Petersburg City Council, District 6.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pinellas County Commissioner <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/tag\/rene-flowers\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Rene Flowers<\/a>, former state Representative and City Council Member <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/tag\/frank-peterman-jr\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Frank Peterman<\/a>, and Gulfport City Council Member Marlene Shaw are backing Mallory in the crowded race for St. Petersburg City Council District 6.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Flowers, whose County Commission district includes District 6, cited Mallory\u2019s leadership as reason for her support.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cDistrict 6 needs a well rounded leader who will support the thriving ventures downtown, possess a keen business acumen all while focusing on the inner core of St. Petersburg,\u201d Flowers said. \u201cTrevor Mallory is the right choice and the best choice for the District 6 St. Petersburg City Council seat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Peterman noted Mallory\u2019s emphasis on affordable housing as reason for the endorsement.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/785509-florida-taps-icf-for-comprehensive-management-services-bringing-proven-expertise-to-statewide-programs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-795634 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/florida-campaign-florida-politics-display-ad-728x90px.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"780\" height=\"97\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cDuring my time on the St. Petersburg City Council, I learned what works,\u201d Peterman said. \u201cWhat I see is clear: Trevor Mallory is the best choice in this election. He has been hard at work building the future of St. Petersburg for years. Right now, when the cost of living is a top concern, Trevor is exactly the right person to meet the moment. Vote Trevor Mallory for City Council.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mallory\u2019s campaign highlighted that Peterman, who was the Secretary of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice and served in the Florida House, started his career in the same St. Petersburg City Council seat where Mallory is running today. Peterman\u2019s endorsement gives Mallory support from a second former District 6 representative, following an earlier endorsement from former District 6 City Council Member Karl Nurse.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mallory\u2019s campaign has also been <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/803781-trevor-mallory-leads-st-pete-district-6-field-in-recent-fundraising-cash-on-hand\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">endorsed<\/a> by Gulfport City Council Members Nancy Earley and Jennifer Daunch, former Gulfport City Council Member April Thanos, Florida Democratic Black Caucus President Armando Grundy-Gomes, Dr. Basha Jordan, Torrie Jasuwan, Pastor Manuel Sykes and Pastor G. Gregg Murray.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The latest endorsements come as Mallory holds the strongest current cash position in the race, leading a field that also includes <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/756429-terri-balliet-to-kick-off-st-pete-city-council-campaign\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Terri Balliet<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/tag\/linsey-grove\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Linsey Grove<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/tag\/doug-homeyer\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Doug Homeyer<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/tag\/jameka-williams\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Jameka Williams<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Balliet remains the race\u2019s overall fundraising leader, with nearly $49,000 raised to date, but has spent about $37,500. Mallory follows with nearly $33,000 raised overall, but he leads in cash on hand with just over $13,500 in expenditures to date, giving him $19,000 remaining.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.razackforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-800591 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Razack728x90-May-15-2023-at-17.01.44-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"91\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Grove has raised nearly $27,000 and spent about $14,000. Homeyer has raised over $11,500 and spent about $4,500, while Williams has raised over $6,500 and spent over $3,500. All numbers are current as of June 26 except for those of Williams, who has only filed reports through June 12.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mallory is President of Neighborhood Home Solutions, a nonprofit community development organization focused on homeownership.
