The project comes as St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport continues to record passenger growth, with traffic up more than 50% over the past decade.<\/p>\n<p>The Florida airport, which serves Pinellas County, has revised the scope of its terminal project after earlier cost estimates came in above initial expectations. The current plan focuses on upgrades to existing facilities, passenger flow and core infrastructure. An earlier US$110 million concept included a larger terminal expansion, additional gates, a consolidated passenger screening area and a second boarding level. The revised plan is structured as a phased program aligned with available funding.<\/p>\n<p>Pinellas County commissioners are seeking close to US$4.9 million in federal infrastructure funding to support design work. The construction package is expected to include about US$110 million in Federal Aviation Administration grants, along with roughly US$35 million from airport reserves and local matching funds. Planned improvements include added space above the baggage claim area, expanded hold-room seating and additional concession capacity.
