Late-night theme park events have become some of the most popular add-on experiences in Central Florida. For guests willing to spend extra for shorter lines, unique entertainment, and a more relaxed atmosphere, these separately ticketed nights can completely change the feel of a park.<\/p>\n

Now, Universal Orlando is officially entering that space with Universal Nights at Epic Universe. While the concept may sound familiar to longtime Disney fans, Universal isn\u2019t simply copying Walt Disney World\u2019s After Hours formula. Instead, it\u2019s introducing an event with its own identity, giving guests another option for experiencing a theme park after dark.<\/p>\n

Although the two events share several similarities, there are also some notable differences that could influence which experience guests ultimately choose.<\/p>\n

Universal Finally Has Its Own After-Hours Experience<\/p>\n

For years, Disney has largely owned the premium after-hours market in Orlando. Disney After Hours events<\/a> have become a favorite among guests looking to enjoy attractions with lower wait times while snacking on complimentary treats throughout the evening.<\/p>\n

Universal Nights will debut at Epic Universe this fall with its first announced dates scheduled for October 3 and October 17. Tickets begin at $179.99 plus tax, placing the event squarely in the same premium pricing category as Disney\u2019s offerings.<\/p>\n

On paper, both events promise many of the same advantages. Guests receive access to the park after regular operating hours, fewer crowds, entertainment offerings, character encounters, and complimentary snacks and beverages.<\/p>\n

But once you look beyond the basic concept, Universal begins separating itself from Disney in several important ways.<\/p>\n

The Evening Actually Begins Earlier Than You Might Expect<\/p>\n

Like Disney After Hours, Universal allows ticket holders to enter the park before the exclusive event officially begins.<\/p>\n

Universal Nights guests can enter Epic Universe beginning at 7:00 p.m., even though the private event doesn\u2019t officially start until 9:00 p.m. and continues through midnight.<\/p>\n

Disney follows a similar strategy by letting After Hours guests enter its parks at 7:00 p.m. before the exclusive portion begins later in the evening.<\/p>\n

However, Disney\u2019s actual event hours vary depending on the park:<\/p>\n

Magic Kingdom typically runs from 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
\nEPCOT generally operates from 9:30 p.m. until 12:30 a.m.
\nDisney\u2019s Hollywood Studios usually follows the same 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. schedule, although some nights extend later.<\/p>\n

That means Universal\u2019s schedule lands somewhere between Disney\u2019s different offerings. Guests still receive three hours of exclusive park access, but the event wraps up slightly earlier than Magic Kingdom\u2019s version.<\/p>\n

Universal Is Building Its Event Around Epic Universe<\/p>\n

Perhaps the biggest distinction isn\u2019t the hours\u2014it\u2019s what happens before the exclusive event even starts.<\/p>\n

Universal has tied early admission directly into Universal Celestial Goodnight, Epic Universe\u2019s nighttime fireworks and projection spectacular. Guests arriving during the early-entry period can enjoy the nighttime entertainment before transitioning into the private event.<\/p>\n

Disney\u2019s early-entry period primarily functions as bonus park time. While guests can certainly enjoy whatever entertainment is already scheduled that evening, the After Hours experience itself isn\u2019t built around a signature nighttime spectacular.<\/p>\n

Universal, meanwhile, appears to be using Celestial Goodnight as part of the overall event experience rather than simply treating early admission as extra ride time.<\/p>\n

For guests already planning to visit Epic Universe, that could make the evening feel more complete before the exclusive event even officially begins.<\/p>\n

Both Events Include Familiar Perks<\/p>\n

When comparing what\u2019s included with admission, the similarities are easy to spot.<\/p>\n

For visitors, that means the value proposition looks fairly similar. Both companies are essentially selling time\u2014time spent riding attractions instead of standing in lengthy queues.<\/p>\n

Pricing Is Surprisingly Close<\/p>\n

Considering Epic Universe is Universal\u2019s newest and most in-demand park,<\/a> some fans expected Universal Nights to arrive with a significantly higher price tag.<\/p>\n

Instead, the company landed almost directly alongside Disney.<\/p>\n

Universal Nights starts at $179.99 plus tax.<\/a> At the moment, Universal has not announced whether pricing will fluctuate based on demand or event date.<\/p>\n

Rather than trying to undercut Disney on price, Universal appears to be positioning Universal Nights as another premium experience aimed at guests looking for a less crowded way to experience a theme park.<\/p>\n

This Is Where Universal Really Differs<\/p>\n

The biggest difference isn\u2019t price.<\/p>\n

It isn\u2019t snacks.<\/p>\n

It isn\u2019t ride access.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s availability.<\/p>\n

Disney After Hours has evolved into a regular offering across multiple parks, with dozens of event nights scheduled throughout the year. Magic Kingdom alone hosts numerous After Hours dates<\/a>, while Hollywood Studios<\/a> and EPCOT also receive extended event calendars that span several months.<\/p>\n

Universal is taking a much more cautious approach.<\/p>\n

Right now, only two Universal Nights dates have been announced.<\/p>\n

That immediately makes the event feel more exclusive, but it also limits flexibility for vacation planners. If your trip doesn\u2019t overlap with October 3 or October 17, you simply won\u2019t have the option to attend\u2014at least for now.<\/p>\n

Universal has indicated that additional information will be released in the coming weeks, leaving open the possibility that more event dates could eventually be added.<\/p>\n

Still, the initial rollout looks far different from Disney\u2019s established schedule.<\/p>\n

Which Event Is Better?<\/p>\n

At this point, declaring a winner would be premature.<\/p>\n

Universal Nights hasn\u2019t even held its first event, so guests haven\u2019t yet experienced crowd levels, attraction wait times, snack offerings, or the overall atmosphere.<\/p>\n

What is clear, however, is that Universal isn\u2019t trying to create an identical version of Disney After Hours.<\/p>\n

Instead, the company has built an event around Epic Universe itself, incorporating its nighttime spectacular<\/a> into the evening while keeping the familiar combination of rides, entertainment, characters, and complimentary refreshments that fans have come to expect from premium after-hours experiences.<\/p>\n

It simply gives Orlando visitors another way to experience a theme park after dark, with a format that feels familiar while still carving out its own place in the increasingly competitive world of premium nighttime experiences.<\/p>\n
