MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. \u2014 A Miami Gardens man is facing charges after investigators said he allegedly broke into a Miami-Dade senior\u2019s home and stole about $33,000 in cash, along with televisions and jewelry.<\/p>\n
According to an arrest report from the Miami-Dade Sheriff\u2019s Office, 33-year-old Antonio Nieves was arrested Monday after investigators linked him to a burglary that occurred on June 30 at a home near the 4200 block of Northwest 32nd Street in the county\u2019s Brownsville area. <\/p>\n
Deputies said the 78-year-old victim reported that someone forced open her rear kitchen door, causing about $300 in damage, before the home was \u201cransacked.\u201d <\/p>\n
The report states the suspects also broke a hole in a wall and stole approximately $33,000 in cash, two LG televisions and a gold necklace with a pendant.<\/p>\n
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage from inside the home and saw a person they later identified as Nieves \u201cpartially enter\u201d the home before he \u201cbacked out when he noticed the interior security cameras,\u201d according to the report.<\/p>\n
The report states that moments later, surveillance footage captured that same person back inside the home covering his face with a white cloth while he was accompanied by an \u201cunknown Black male.\u201d <\/p>\n
The report states investigators also found surveillance video showing a cream-colored, early 2000s four-door pickup truck used in the burglary. <\/p>\n
Detectives said the truck matched a GMC Canyon registered to Nieves that had \u201cspecific markings and aftermarket insignias\u201d on it. <\/p>\n
They said Nieves was also seen at a jewelry store about an hour and a half before the burglary, where he completed a \u201cpawn\/sale transaction.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to the report, security footage from the store showed Nieves wearing the same clothing investigators say he wore during the burglary and driving the same vehicle.<\/p>\n
Police arrested Nieves Monday near Northwest 17th Avenue and 44th Street after a Miami police sergeant spotted him driving the GMC Canyon and conducted a traffic stop, the report states. <\/p>\n
Jail records show Nieves is facing one count each of burglary of an occupied dwelling, second-degree grand theft between $20,000 and $100,000, and criminal mischief.<\/p>\n
Investigators requested a Nebbia hold \u201cdue to the amount stolen from the 78-year-old widow victim.\u201d A Nebbia hold allows a judge to require a defendant to show the source of funds being used for bond if there are concerns the money may have come from illegal activity.<\/p>\n
As of Tuesday afternoon, Nieves was being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. He was also ordered to stay away from the victim. <\/p>\n
