UMATILLA, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 An 11-year-old Pennsylvania boy is recovering after an alligator attack at a Central Florida fish camp left him without his right hand.<\/p>\n

The June 27 attack at Nelson Fish Camp<\/a> near Umatilla marked the third reported alligator attack in Florida over three days.<\/p>\n

Brodie was fishing with his father when the alligator snapped up as he went to release a fish he caught.<\/p>\n

In an interview with ClickOrlando<\/a>, Andrew Raines said Brodie’s father jumped into the water and fought to free his son by prying his mouth open when disaster struck:<\/p>\n

The gator rolled and that’s what ultimately severed Brodie’s hand.”<\/p>\n

The family said the attack happened quickly, but Brodie now faces a long recovery as he learns to adjust to life without his right hand.<\/p>\n

“The two loves of his life were baseball and fishing,” said Raines. “If he wasn’t playing baseball, he was fishing.”<\/p>\n

Brodie’s travel baseball coach traveled to Florida to visit him in the hospital. The family launched a GoFundMe, “Support Brodie\u2019s Recovery After Alligator Attack,” to raise money for his recovery and lost income.<\/p>\n

They say they just want to see Brodie be himself again.<\/p>\n

One day earlier, 71-year-old James Grayson McMicken<\/a> survived an attack while fishing behind his North Fort Myers home. He said the alligator dragged him into the water before he fought back by striking the animal\u2019s eyes with his hands and fishing pole.<\/p>\n

Days before Brody\u2019s attack, 31-year-old Orlando woman Brittany Clark<\/a> was killed by an alligator while in the Econlockhatchee River in Seminole County.<\/p>\n

Wildlife officials remind people to stay alert around Florida waterways, never feed alligators, and avoid getting too close to the animals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"UMATILLA, Fla.
