{"id":333791,"date":"2026-07-09T00:20:07","date_gmt":"2026-07-09T00:20:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/333791\/"},"modified":"2026-07-09T00:20:07","modified_gmt":"2026-07-09T00:20:07","slug":"latest-jax-litter-league-winners-collected-nearly-5-tons-of-trash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/333791\/","title":{"rendered":"Latest Jax Litter League winners collected nearly 5 tons of trash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 A team of volunteers removed 268 bags of litter from public spaces to win the latest round of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jacksonville.gov\/mayor\/initiatives\/keep-jax-cute\/jax-litter-league\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.jacksonville.gov\/mayor\/initiatives\/keep-jax-cute\/jax-litter-league\">JAX Litter League<\/a>, a civic competition launched by Mayor Donna Deegan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Ruth Peeples\u2019 team, honored at a Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp game July 7, removed 4.69 tons of debris from roadsides, parks and public spaces and saved the city an estimated $9,010. Josh Beran\u2019s team finished second, picking up nearly a ton.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionnewsjax.com\/live-breaking\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.actionnewsjax.com\/live-breaking\/\" target=\"_blank\">&gt;&gt;&gt; STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE &lt;&lt;&lt;<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">All volunteers in this season\u2019s citywide beautification effort donated more than 500 hours, which a metric of the Independent Sector values at $18,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">\u201cEvery bag these volunteers filled is a cleaner street, a healthier waterway, and a source of pride for our neighborhoods,\u201d Deegan said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">[DOWNLOAD: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionnewsjax.com\/mobile-apps\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks<\/a>]<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">The league, which began in 2025, pits teams in neighborhoods across Jacksonville against one another in friendly, weekslong competitions to pick up the most trash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Hundreds participated in the latest \u201cseason,\u201d spanning 98 days through July 3.
