(WINK)\u2014Residents at the Landings at East Pointe received notices Wednesday morning saying <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winknews.com\/news\/lee\/families-at-fort-myers-housing-authority-property-say-months-without-reliable-ac-are-putting-their\/article_461aeb4f-1ea6-4e52-9b82-ebd58a1755be.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">new air conditioning units are scheduled to be installed<\/a> starting this week.<\/p>\n<p>Many residents have been without working units for weeks, forcing families to rely on portable air conditioners in single rooms.<\/p>\n<p>Mylissa Beard, a resident at the complex, showed WINK News why her family has been sleeping in the living room. Using an infrared thermometer inside Beard&#8217;s apartment Wednesday, the device registered 90 degrees on the wall and 84 degrees where her one-year-old sleeps.<\/p>\n<p>                        <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAQAAAADCAQAAAAe\/WZNAAAAEElEQVR42mM8U88ABowYDABAxQPltt5zqAAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==\" alt=\"vlcsnap-2026-07-08-21h32m56s758.png\" class=\"img-responsive lazyload full default\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" data- data-\/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s hot, it&#8217;s super hot, like I&#8217;m in a volcano hot,&#8221; Beard said.<\/p>\n<p>The only relief comes from a portable air conditioner struggling to cool the space.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s working so hard that it&#8217;s not even cool,&#8221; Beard said. &#8220;He has to literally sit in front of the AC.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Beard woke up Wednesday morning to a notice saying her new air conditioner is scheduled to be installed Friday. After waiting two months for repairs, she said she&#8217;s cautiously optimistic.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m so excited,&#8221; Beard said. &#8220;I just really hope they come through.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>                        <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAQAAAADCAQAAAAe\/WZNAAAAEElEQVR42mM8U88ABowYDABAxQPltt5zqAAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==\" alt=\"vlcsnap-2026-07-08-21h32m43s486.png\" class=\"img-responsive lazyload full default\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" data- data-\/><\/p>\n<p>She questioned why action came so quickly after WINK News got involved.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve been begging for two months for you to fix this,&#8221; Beard said. &#8220;The minute I talk to WINK News, now you want to do something.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Multiple residents sent installation notices to WINK News showing crews are expected to start Thursday and continue through the weekend. Beard said Friday&#8217;s installation can&#8217;t come soon enough.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I really hope, because this is like sitting in hell,&#8221; Beard said.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hacfm.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Fort Myers Housing Authority<\/a> is working to provide information about how many air conditioning units still need to be replaced and when every request will be completed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"FORT MYERS, Fla.
