TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) \u2014 As the 2026 Primary Election in Florida quickly approaches, so comes the deadline for eligible voters to register.<\/p>\n
Here are upcoming deadlines<\/a> for the Primary Election:<\/p>\n Deadline to send vote-by-mail ballots to domestic voters: July 9 \u201416<\/p>\n Deadline to register to vote or change party affiliation: July 20<\/p>\n Deadline to request that ballot be mailed: August 6<\/p>\n Early voting period (mandatory period): August 8 \u2014 15<\/p>\n A primary election allows voters to nominate party nominees for the general election to fill a national, state, county or district office. It is typically held 11 weeks before the general election.<\/p>\n Florida is a closed primary state, meaning that only registered members of political parties can vote for their respective party candidates in primary elections.<\/p>\n However, the 2026 election will also include nonpartisan contests that those unaffiliated with a party can vote in.<\/p>\n According to the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections<\/a>, there will be three ballots in the upcoming election: Republican, Democratic, and nonpartisan.
