An arrest has been made in the nearly 40-year-old cold case murder of a young Jacksonville mother.<\/p>\n
Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters said Thursday that 70-year-old Gary Glowacz is being charged in the December 1987 murder of 20-year-old Melissa Ellison, who was known as “Missy” to friends and family.<\/p>\n
>>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<<<\/a><\/p>\n At the time of her murder<\/a>, the 20-year-old was living in a mobile home with roommates and her baby.<\/p>\n Police say Ellison was asleep when she was beaten to death. Inside the home was her 13-month-old daughter Casie, who was found on a couch unharmed and surrounded by pillows.<\/p>\n JSO said in a news release issued Thursday afternoon that on Wednesday, Glowacz “called into dispatch at the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. He advised he wanted to provide information about the death of Ellison.”<\/p>\n Glowacz’s arrest report states that he was at a VyStar Credit Union on Blanding Boulevard when he made the call.<\/p>\n Glowacz was taken to JSO headquarters and interviewed by detectives. What Glowacz said during the interview is redacted in his arrest report.<\/p>\n [DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks<\/a>]<\/p>\n After the interview, Glowacz “was informed that he was being arrested for the murder and burglary with assault\/battery.”<\/p>\n Ellison’s family, along with First Coast Crime Stoppers, made a renewed push in January<\/a> for information leading to an arrest.<\/p>\n “She died slowly and painfully. She was stolen from our lives.
