MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) – Team Norway\u2019s fandemonium is sweeping South Florida ahead of Saturday\u2019s quarterfinal against England in Miami Stadium.<\/p>\n
As Norway prepares for the major matchup, some soccer fans are ditching the beach chairs and focusing on a different mission: the nation\u2019s iconic Norway row. It\u2019s when fans and players come together to lock arms, use imaginary oars and row together as one.<\/p>\n
Norway fans filled up Miami Beach on Thursday ahead of the city\u2019s demonstration of the \u201cViking row\u201d hitting Ocean Drive and Fifth Street, which will be held on Friday.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s like 26, 28 years since we were in the World Cup last time. We would never expect to go to the quarterfinals, but now we\u2019re here, and we think we can win the whole thing,\u201d said Team Norway fan Christopher Hendriksan.<\/p>\n
The viral and iconic stadium celebration has taken the World Cup by storm.<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, we\u2019re very excited for Norway. We hope they win,\u201d said a fan.<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone can do it. It\u2019s like unity when everyone does it, and they do the \u2018row.\u2019 It\u2019s very powerful, you can hear it in the stadium; it\u2019s vibrating,\u201d said Hendriksan. \u201cEveryone is like one big happy family. With the supporters, you can see them celebrating with the supporters after the games, and I don\u2019t think anyone else does that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Leading the charge on Saturday is Norway\u2019s team striker and fan favorite, Erling Haaland, who\u2019s been getting in on the fan fun, too.<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course train good, of course focus well and prepare well, but you also need to joke around, and you need to enjoy the moment, and that\u2019s what we\u2019ve been doing now,\u201d said Haaland.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s the best striker in the world,\u201d said fan Christopher Solvakken.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, England is spreading the love, too.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been 60 years, right? Like, we\u2019ve only ever won at one time, so, but if Norway gets past us, which I think, you know, they\u2019ve got a great chance, then I\u2019ll be supporting them to win the World Cup, because the way they played it against Brazil was wonderful,\u201d said Team England fan Richi Madan. \u201cCome on, England, it\u2019s coming home, baby.\u201d<\/p>\n
Norway\u2019s players have been training at Inter Miami Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. Soccer icon David Beckham has reportedly invited the English team to train at his Florida Blue Training Center, also in Fort Lauderdale.<\/p>\n
Those still trying to snag tickets to Saturday\u2019s game may be in luck. Ticket prices have dropped 45% since Mexico\u2019s loss against England.<\/p>\n
To join in the World Cup fan action, the \u201cViking row\u201d demonstration, followed by a celebration on the street, is open to everyone, fan or not. It is set to happen Friday afternoon in Miami Beach on Ocean Drive and Fifth Street.<\/p>\n
Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner and city commissioners are expected to speak at 1:30 p.m., with one demonstration scheduled for 2 p.m. and another at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n
Soccer fans can also catch the World Cup fun on WSVN Channel 7.<\/p>\n
