The Key Biscayne Community Compost Program, run by A Zero Waste Culture, was launched in 2020 to divert food scraps and other organics from landfills, reduce methane emissions and create nutrient-rich soil.<\/p>\n
Members collect food scraps during the week and bring them on Saturdays to the Farmers Market at Key Biscayne Community Church, 355 Glenridge Rd.<\/p>\n
Below is the environmental impact of the Island\u2019s composting efforts. These figures include compost materials collected from members through home pick-ups, as well as from our participating schools and businesses.<\/p>\n
\u2022 759 pounds of food scraps collected this past week<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0407,071 pounds collected so far, or 203.54 tons<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0132.30 metric tons of greenhouse gases prevented from entering the atmosphere<\/p>\n
