{"id":336359,"date":"2026-07-10T23:35:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-10T23:35:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/336359\/"},"modified":"2026-07-10T23:35:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-10T23:35:09","slug":"state-report-lists-23-miami-dade-buildings-as-unsafe-5-years-after-surfside-condo-collapse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/336359\/","title":{"rendered":"State report lists 23 Miami-Dade buildings as \u2018unsafe\u2019 5 years after Surfside condo collapse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">AVENTURA, Fla.  \u2014 Five years after the collapse of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/topic\/Surfside_condo_collapse\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/topic\/Surfside_condo_collapse\/\">Champlain Towers South condominium in Surfside<\/a>, the first milestone report required under Florida\u2019s post-Surfside building safety laws is drawing scrutiny over how inspection data is being reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The report obtained by Local 10 News on Friday states that of the 24 buildings statewide classified as \u201cunsafe or uninhabitable,\u201d 23 are in Miami-Dade County. A footnote indicates Aventura reported 19 of those buildings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">But Aventura officials say the report lacks important context.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cIn Aventura, we do not have the number of concerning issues as the report seems to imply there are,\u201d Keven Klopp, the city\u2019s building official, said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Klopp said every inspected building in Aventura is safe to occupy and that buildings requiring repairs, renovations or maintenance have submitted plans and timelines to complete the work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">City officials say the report\u2019s wording and lack of detail create a misleading impression of building conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The report also raises concerns about statewide reporting. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">It indicates that about one in five city building departments did not submit inspection data and does not specify what consequences, if any, those jurisdictions could face.
