\n\t\t\t\t\t\tDetectives arrested a 32-year-old man in St. Lucie County on July 9 after a high-speed chase in a stolen car ended with a flat tire and his apprehension. Detectives with the Special Investigations Division observed a black Honda Civic repeatedly circling the parking lot of a 7-Eleven on Orange Avenue in Fort Pierce. As they began investigating, the vehicle abruptly exited the parking lot and accelerated westbound on Orange Avenue at a high rate of speed. Detectives quickly determined the Honda Civic had been reported stolen earlier that day from Port St. Lucie. The driver fled westbound on Orange Avenue, weaving through traffic, passing other vehicles, and driving into oncoming lanes. Detectives temporarily lost sight of the vehicle but continued searching the area. The stolen car was located again traveling south on Shinn Road, where the driver continued operating recklessly before turning west onto Okeechobee Road. Despite detectives activating their emergency lights and sirens, the driver refused to stop. Moments later, the driver crossed the grassy median and began traveling eastbound on Okeechobee Road. The chase ended when the Honda Civic left the roadway and entered the grass shoulder, causing the front tire to blow out. The driver attempted to evade capture by climbing into the vehicle’s back seat, but detectives quickly took him into custody without further incident. A passenger in the vehicle was determined not to be involved and was released at the scene. The driver was identified as Savon Damont Montgomery, 32, of Ft. Pierce. He was transported to the St. Lucie County Jail and charged with grand theft auto, fleeing and eluding with willful disregard for persons or property, and driving while license suspended as a habitual offender. “Every decision this suspect made showed a complete disregard for the safety of others,\u201d said Sheriff Richard Del Toro. \u201cWhen someone chooses to flee in a stolen vehicle, weave through traffic, and drive into oncoming lanes, they become a threat to every family sharing that roadway. Our detectives remained focused, acted professionally, and brought this dangerous situation to a safe conclusion.
